CEDAR CITY — A 4-year-old Cedar City boy who is battling cancer will be the beneficiary of a fund-raising 5K run.
The “AG Run For a Reason” is scheduled for the morning of Sept. 24 at Cedar City’s East Canyon Park, with all proceeds and donations going to Hudson Hunter and his family to help pay for his medical expenses.
In late April, Hudson was reportedly diagnosed with stage 4, high-risk neuroblastoma that had spread throughout several of his bones, including vertebrae, pelvis, skull, sternum and femurs.
Hudson’s ongoing and upcoming treatments include multiple rounds of chemotherapy, surgeries, stem cell transplants, and several rounds of radiation, all taking place in Salt Lake City.
“Hudson and his family have a long journey ahead of them and need our help,” states the flier promoting the fundraising event.
“We just basically want to invite the community to come run with us,” said Ammon Davis, operations manager for AvantGuard Monitoring Centers, which is sponsoring the event in partnership with its associated nonprofit organization, AG Cares Foundation.
Davis told Cedar City News that the security system company’s newly opened Cedar City office is its third location, after Ogden, Utah and Rexburg, Idaho. The company and foundation have been holding similar events in both Ogden and Rexburg every fall for the past several years, Davis said.
For those not wanting to run a full 5K, there will also be a one-mile fun walk option, up and down the trail, Davis added.
“After the 5K is over, we’ll do a kid’s race, which is just going to be run from one end of the field to the other with the little kids,” Davis said, adding that there will also be food and games afterward. Commemorative T-shirts will also be given out to registered attendees, first come first served.
A silent auction will also be held, where people can bid on items and services donated by local businesses.
“We’ll present the check to the family after the race,” Davis said. “We’re not sure yet if Hudson will be there. It kind of depends on where he’s at with his treatment.”
